Open Farm Sunday comes to Pembrokeshire!

Open Farm Sunday is taking place on Sunday 5th June 2016 from 10am – 4pm at Lower Treginnis Farm near St Davids (SA62 6RS).

For a brilliant, free, family fun day out during Whitsun half term why not bring the children down to Lower Treginnis Farm in St Davids for Open Farm Sunday, where your farming adventure begins!

Working with the charity Farms for City Children we are thrilled to be able to bring Open Farm Sunday to Pembrokeshire for the first time! Open Farm Sunday is a national event and allows children throughout Wales and the rest of the UK to visit lots of different farms and find out more about the animals, crops and machinery involved with sustainable farming in the UK.

Find out where your food comes from

Ever wanted to find out more about the farms that your food comes from? Ever wondered how Pembrokeshire farmers grow so many potatoes? How to potato farmers provide potatoes all year round?

Open Farm Sunday is your chance to find out more about commercial potato farming in Pembrokeshire and even pick your own award-winning Pembrokeshire Early potatoes! From Lower Treginnis farm you can take the ‘Pure Pembrokeshire Gold Treasure Trail’ to visit commercial potato farmer Robin Elliot. Robin has been growing award-winning potatoes for over 50 years, so knows what makes a spud taste good!

With fields full of our delicate Pembrokeshire Earlies overlooking the deep blue sea and Pembrokeshire coastline, find out more about how Robin grows these protected geographical indicator status (PGI) Pembrokeshire Earlies so well (you may even get the chance to climb into some of the huge machinery Robin uses on the farm!). Back at Lower Treginnis farm it is your chance to pick your own Pembrokeshire Early potatoes and try them freshly cooked by the Blas y Tir team.

What’s more, this year we have the brilliant guys at AHDB Potatoes bringing their super-duper new van to the event, where you can find out all sort of facts about potatoes, including all the different varieties available, they may even let you try some!

Pop by and visit the goats, pigs, chickens, donkeys and horses at Lower Treginnis Farm!

Take your time to explore the farm, and beyond, at your pace. Visit the animals as you make your way round, and with plenty of people of hand to answer all your questions about all the animals, Open farm Sunday your chance to find out more!

We’ve got a whole host of different activities throughout the day, so make sure to keep an eye on the time! You can feed the pigs, milk the goats, bottle feed the kid goats, and even hold some of the newly-born chicks!
