On Tuesday 14th August, at the Pembrokeshire County Showground in Haverfordwest, we saw the launch of the Pembrokeshire County Show 2018! A fun-filled annual event, the Pembrokeshire County Show attracts visitors, traders and competitors from all parts of Wales and beyond, keen to celebrate the diverse agriculture, homemade produce and traditional values we have here in Wales.
Based in Haverfordwest ourselves, this is our local show, so it is a great opportunity to catch up with all of our fantastic growers, as well as promote Pembrokeshire produce to the thousands of visitors exploring the agricultural world!
Tuesday saw the show kick off with a range of equine classes in one of the main rings. With our stand backing onto the show ring we were able to watch as the first winners of the Pembrokeshire County Show paraded around the ring with their bright-coloured rosettes.
On the Blas y Tir stand we welcomed visitors to; try free samples of our Pembrokeshire Early Potatoes simply boiled and served with Welsh salted butter and mint, take part in our #fuellingtheteam selfie competition for their chance to win Scarlets vs Ospreys tickets, and find out how we pack potatoes for the whole of Wales with our ‘Marble Run’ game!
Although the day remained overcast, it was lovely to speak to consumers and promote our delicious Welsh produce to visitors and, much to our surprise, we even won ‘Reserve Best Large Trade Stand – Non-Agricultural’!
Always our busiest day at the County Show, Wednesday is our opportunity to talk to both consumers and our growers, who come and visit the Blas y Tir stand to enjoy a catch up with the team and other growers.
Wednesday at the Pembrokeshire County Show is also Ladies Day. A chance to celebrate the ladies involved in agriculture, business and the community within Pembrokeshire, Ladies Day is always a key event in the County Show diary. At Blas y Tir we’re proud to have a diverse team, as well as a diverse grower-base and relish the opportunity to celebrate and thank the farming families that are involved in growing our delicious Welsh Produce.
During the day we also had a visit from the Scarlets Rugby Team, who popped by the stand to take part in our #fuellingtheteam selfie competition and take photos with lots of local fans! We’re proud to be able to sponsor the Scarlets Rugby Team and take pride in being linked with a team so dedicated to developing home-grown talent, much as we pick and pack home-grown produce.
Despite the torrential rain for much of the afternoon and the evening, Wednesday was a success!
The third day running sampling our Pembrokeshire Early Potatoes served with Welsh butter and mint, Thursday also included the chance to celebrate Welsh produce by demonstrating some of the delicious recipes we have on the Blas y Tir website.
Taking a trip to the foodhall, Megan from Blas y Tir got her baking hat on and talked visitors through making our tasty Rudolph St. Clements Cake, which is gluten free and utterly delicious. Unlike many gluten free goods, this St. Clements Cake maintains its moisture due to the surprising ingredient… mashed potato!
Although unsure at first, as soon as samples of the cake started heading out to the gathered crowd they flew out, with recipe cards being whisked away ready to impress guests. Tempted? Take a look at our recipe and give it a go yourself… Rudolph St. Clements Cake – we guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
Pembrokeshire County Show 2018 – all over for another year!
It was another busy but successful week at the Pembrokeshire County Show this year, as Blas y Tir looks to continue to grow and develop for Wales.
We love going to show and events and talking to you, our consumers. We love hearing how much you enjoy our produce and buying locally, what exciting recipes you and your families enjoy regularly and how you want to continue to support Welsh farmers. If you have anything you would like to share with us (we especially like photos!), then please don’t hesitate to tag us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
Until next year!
